Bold contrasts and vibrant colors reflect the contradictory nature of rainy days in Riga — on one hand, a time for solitude and reflection, on the other — a moment for new discoveries and inspiration. Created by artist Julija Aleskere, this piece of work contains an esoteric technique that combines abstract art with ancient runic symbols. Following this method gives the reader the ability to peer deeply into specific events, revealing the true meaning. Therefore, opening access to healing, creativity, and energy.

Runes are an ancient Germanic and Scandinavian script, consisting of 24 characters. Also, known as Elder Futhark, it is believed that the runes are able to influence the world. Runes were gifted to many men by God Odin, the Supreme God in German-Scandinavian mythology.

The deck features the 25th Empty Rune of Odin, which was suggested by the founder of modern rune divination, Ralph Bloom. The significance of this Rune stems from the need to introduce the factor of Will from Above in Futhark, which is capable of radically changing any situation.

Futhark is traditionally divided into Attas. Each Att includes eight runes, which combine the sphere of influence and the vector of influence.

The fight eight runes are under the auspices of the God Frey, which symbolizes fertility and harvest. The personifications of this Atta are resources and creations; the beginnings of a new path.

The patron of the second Atta is Heimdal. This Deity guarded the rainbow bridge that connected earth and heaven. Runes of this order are transformative, creative of certain events and changing reality.

The third Att includes symbols characterizing the result of the events. The patron god of this Att is Tyr. The runes establish a connection between the material and the spiritual.

Elements

Rune energies embody the properties of the Elements to which they belong. Fire and Water are able to destroy everything that a person has in order to build a new reality. At the same time, these elements can create comfort, tranquility and build relationships with loved ones. Fire runes activate creative abilities. Water ones bring change and good news. The earth is able to give strong support to new beginnings, helps to strengthen the character and climb the career ladder. The earth helps to acquire material values. Air gives lightness, strongly develops intuition, helps to start new work and personal processes. Air runes help to find the direction of the life path.

Zodiac signs

The connection between the various traditional magical practices and runes are clear. Each of the twelve modern zodiac signs are a combination of Futhark runes and elements.

Aries, Sagittarius, and Leo

These zodiac signs personify the runes Teyvaz, Uruz, Nautiz, Kennaz, Soulu, and Dagaz.

Teyvaz is a rune of strength and fiery passion, power and leadership, war and masculinity.

Uruz (known as "wild bull") denotes masculine strength, courage, natural energy, and physical health.

Kennaz in its first meaning is fire and a torch. In a figurative sense, this rune denotes creativity, energy, power, sexual passion.

Nautiz means need, as well as fire, perseverance, and an internal supply of energy.

Soulu denotes the Sun, the main patron of the king of beasts, and also indicates his strength and power.

Dagaz has the meaning of new hope, optimism, sunlight as opposed to darkness.

Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn

These zodiac signs represent the runes Fehu, Berkan, Inguz, Yera, Evaz, Odal.

Fehu in its first meaning means cattle (bulls, cows), and in a figurative sense - material well-being in the house.

Odal means inheritance, home, prosperity of the family. The desire to accumulate and increase material values, create home comfort, build your own home.

Berkana symbolizes birch, spring, young femininity.

Yera is the rune of harvest, happiness and prosperity.

Inguz means fertility, natural forces, the warmth of the hearth.

Evaz depicts two horses, and in a figurative sense, a change for the better, moving forward, the ability to accept changes.

Gemini, Aquarius, and Libra

These zodiac signs represent the runes Eivaz, Raido, Gebo and Ansuz.

Eivaz, denoting the transition, emphasizes the duality and inconsistency of these signs, as well as the love of change and travel.

Raido, which has a wagon in one of the meanings, patronizes travelers, and also indicates change and development. Which is to the liking of the contradictory, ever-changing Gemini.

Gebo indicates a gift, an exchange of experience, partnerships.

Ansuz expresses enthusiasm and inspiration. The combination of these runes perfectly expresses the character of Libra and their outlook on life.

Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces

These signs of the zodiac represent the runes Hagalaz, Algiz, Perth, Laguz, Isa, Turisaz.

Perth has a double meaning: its image is interpreted as both a bag for runes and a woman's womb.

However, in one sense or another, Perth symbolizes a mystery, a riddle, something hidden.

Turisaz expresses power, strength and change.

Halagaz has the meaning of the revelry of the elements, bad weather, storm, storm and hail.

Isa means ice, freezing, stopping. These two strong runes indicate the stormy, restless and furious lifestyle of Scorpios.

Creative Pisces are more suited to Lagus and Algiz. Lagus is a source of water, the sea, creative and vital energy. Algiz indicates protection and awakening.

 Working with the deck is very simple and does not require deep knowledge of the meaning of runic writing.

The color scheme of each symbol reflects the Element of nature, and the zodiac signs corresponding to the elements. The abstract painting in which the deck is made provides an excellent opportunity to see the images, to feel the energy of the Runes, their meaning and significance. Abstract thinking is what distinguishes man from other creatures on Earth. When we create, we change ourselves. In a state of creative search, our psychological state, thoughts, emotions, and behavior change. We see the world from the other side and notice the signs that the Universe gives us, we gain opportunities that were previously hidden from our eyes.

The deck should be shuffled, thinking about clarifying an issue that requires an urgent decision, or about the upcoming events of the day. The alignment is suitable if you need to know what awaits you in the near future. Additionally, what is important for you to figure out and how to act in a given situation. The causes and possible outcomes.

You need to concentrate on your thoughts, problems or upcoming events. Then shuffle the deck, and then randomly draw 3 cards from the deck. The first rune means the past. The second rune describes the state of affairs for the day. The third rune is the final result, the outcome of the case. If the interpretation is difficult in the scenario, you can draw an additional rune.

Runes are a spiritual and esoteric path.

When one is working on oneself, and is feeling love and light within, then life transforms! When there is anger and hatred in the heart, it gives rise to similar things. That is important to remember! Only by creating and loving, can we transform this World.

The creation of each of my paintings is like the birth of a child: something new and unique is born within me. It’s a process of creation—when, through painstaking work, applying strokes with a palette knife, blending, or drawing fine lines with brushes of various sizes, images, forms, correct reliefs, and features arise. How important it is to search for the right colors, create the necessary shades, and reflect exactly the image that hovers in the ephemeral state of my subconscious!

The painting "Samurai" is a special child, born after trials and a long, conscious journey. The image appeared to me as a wanderer, hermit, or Buddhist monk, holding a dialogue with his Higher Self. This period of my life resonated with this image. On the canvas, a silhouette gradually emerged, which I saw as a warrior ready to defend his faith in a bright future. This work became a reflection of my inner world, combining spiritual searches, the quest for self-knowledge, and faith in the better. This work is created in my unique style using a multilayered oil technique, which gives the piece a special depth and texture. Each layer of paint reveals new nuances, creating a multifaceted perception and atmosphere filled with inner strength and harmony. The bright color palette contrasts with the delicate treatment of details, emphasizing the expressiveness and dynamism of the image.

The image of a lonely traveler seeking enlightenment evokes deep thoughts on the path of self-awareness and inner growth. This painting embodies the philosophy of the samurais, dedicated to the search for wisdom and balance. Why do Runes correspond to the Elements? Runes and Elements: Understanding Ancient Scandinavian Symbols and Their Connection to the Forces of Nature.
